Autumn Diesel Weekend - 29th-30th September 20189
We are running our Autumn Diesel Weekend on 29th & 30th September, we will be announcing visitors and further information as soon as we are able to, please come back soon. A 'driver for a fiver' shunter experience is planned on Dereham's Platform 1.
5th August 2018 Update
Unfortunately, we've had to put plans for our September Diesel Weekend on hold. Many of you will already be aware that the Mid-Norfolk Railway has recently entered into a multi-million-pound contract that will see the line being used for storage of some of the new rolling stock that is due to be delivered to local train operator Greater Anglia.
Major infrastructure works started almost as soon as the contract was signed, with deliveries of sleepers, machinery, and other materials almost daily and contractors already busy on site, tracklaying works are about to begin in earnest. For safety reasons, the works are of course carried out under engineering possessions and a major one is scheduled for the week before our planned gala, meaning that the days we normally have prior to a gala event for intensive preparations, won't be available to us.
Our volunteers, just like many of our visitors, have to arrange leave from their full-time employment well in advance in order to come and work at our special events too, so rescheduling at such a late stage isn't really an option for us, as we would have insufficient volunteer resources to provide an interesting event with an intensive service on any alternative dates.
We will still be able to run a less resource-heavy 'home fleet' diesel event on 29th & 30th September, and hope that you'll still come along to support Norfolk's longest heritage railway and see the exciting infrastructure upgrades for yourself.
Confirmed Locomotives (more to be added later)
